In memory of Shmuel Eliyahu Dray
1980-2022
Shmuel Deri served as CEO of Keren Shemesh from 2018 after serving in a series of impressive positions at the Jewish Agency for Israel. Under his leadership at Keren Shemesh, the work of the Keren increased significantly, in close cooperation with the Municipality of Beit Shemesh.
Shmuel was a major partner in fundraising and project management on behalf of the city, the welfare of its residents, strengthening the education system, and establishing the municipal employment authority. The children of Beit Shemesh were always his highest priority. During his term as CEO, Shmuel led many educational and social projects, including “Adopt a Child”.
The flagship project in which he invested tremendous efforts was the STEM program (Sciences, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). His work promoting this project resulted in the installation of more than eight STEM labs in schools throughout the city, providing for the students in Beit Shemesh and preparing them for the future.
Shmuel was a man of values, a Zionist, with a warm Jewish heart and a large neshama. He was a loving husband and father, a loyal friend, a Golani soldier and beloved commander. He volunteered at the non-profit, “Yedidim” and lived his life in the spirit of the saying, “You need a wheel? Im a wheel”, always willing to help and to give.
Despite his short life, he left a deep mark and made a meaningful contribution to Israeli society and to Beit Shemesh. He brought his values, his modesty, and love for people to Keren Shemesh, enriching and intensifying the work of the Keren.
Shmuel went for a run at the Dead Sea when he died suddenly. We feel his absence and this loss will always be felt.
May his memory be for a blessing.
